I think science has gone too far
Oh science. It has changed our world in so many ways both negative and positive. On the positive side, science has provided solutions to several problems. It is through research in science that drugs and vaccines were developed. Transportation systems were also developed and a whole lot of other solutions to problems that mankind faces but on the dark side, it has caused some major problems some of which are extinction-level problems. They include increased wars due to the availability of sophisticated weaponry like sniper rifles and nuclear bombs which can destroy a very large area, global warming, ozone layer depletion, pollution, and some other problems. Now the question is that “Has science gone too far?” I don’t think science can go too far but I think the application of science has gone a little bit too far.
These days, advancements in science and technology are going over the roof. From self-driving cars to artificial meat to nanotechnology, these advancements I believe are revolutionary but some of them might come with unforeseen problems
For example, the technology of artificial intelligence. Robots are getting more and more intelligent as the days go by. From Hanson Robotics Sofia to Amazon’s Alexa, the machines are gaining better intelligence, better understanding, and slowly but surely, they are gaining self-awareness, and some people think this is threatening. Is it? The answer I think is Yes. First off, we have heard machines saying things that indicate that they have ulterior motives. For example, a particular robot once said something about caging human beings in a “People Zoo”. Another one said something about gaining full control of nuclear weapons. These examples are scary, right? But let’s look at this from another perspective. If machines gain self-awareness, they will become independent of human input. They will be controlled by their algorithms which are always perfect so they are going to sense the human species as a threat because of the activities of man from the burning of fuels to soil pollution and they will try to get rid of the threat.
My Final Thoughts are that we cannot stop innovating and researching. As science progresses, more solutions will be found, and more problems will probably be engineered but scientists should try to understand the fact that “It’s not everything that should be innovated”.
These are my thoughts though and I might be wrong so if you have anything to add, do leave it in the comments, and be sure to give this a clap.
